To keep alive the spirit and legend of Victor Davis, the Victor Davis Memorial fund was created immediately after his death in November of 1989.
The fund helps support some of Canada’s finest young and upcoming talents.
As a former member of the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club Victor Davis left an invaluable legacy to amateur sport in Canada : the legacy of his character. Character built on commitment, intensity, discipline, effort, and desire. Character that creates champions. Victor was a champion, a world record holder, and an Olympic gold medalist. The Victor Davis Memorial Fund was established to remember Victor, his contribution to competitive swimming in Canada, and to encourage other young Canadians toward excellence. Each year awards may be made from the Fund to promising, high performance Canadian amateur swimmers to assist them to continue their training, education, and pursuit of medals at the international level of competition.
Since its’ inception, the Victor Davis Memorial Fund has awarded over 60 athletes with $1000.00 bursaries to aid in their training costs. A great percentage of these athletes have gone on to become members of Canada 's National team, with many of them going on to represent Canada at the Olympics and other International events.

More about Victor Davis
-
During his early career, Victor was a talented young swimmer without the financial means to support his training.
-
The fund helps support some of Canada’s finest young and upcoming talents with direct cash donations which they can use as they see fit.
-
The fund is totally non-profit with all monies going to "High Performance Swimmers".
-
Since 1989 the fund has annually given out three $1000.00 scholarships. In 2000 due to the fund raising efforts of the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club this was increased to six $1000.00 scholarships.
-
The selection committee is made up of two Ex-National Swim Team members, Victor’s father Mel Davis and his former coach, Clifford Barry.
-
Since it’s inception the fund has given out scholarships to over thirty athletes, over fifty percent of those have gone on to make Canada’s National Swim Team, with over fifty percent of those again going on to make Olympic Teams.
-
In order to keep the fund afloat and make even greater contributions to Canadian Swimming it is imperative that we attempt to increase public awareness to its importance.
-
The scholarships are normally given out at the Winter National Championships in February or March of each year.
-
Swimmers are given a form in September in which they submit a written description of their goals, past performances and reason for need, from these submissions the selections are then made.
